IInfluenced by the difference of how subjects are presented and watched in visual arts and dance, Zavala constructs scenarios choreographed with the agency of a painter who is hyper-aware of being watched from 360 degrees. So;/):;me is a pictorial, cinematic choreography where subjects become objects and objects become subjects in constant mapping of what and who is being watched. The gazed and the gazer are taking agency horizontally. A solo female body, daring to gaze back. The body as a shifting-perspective-vessel, as its own device of mediation.

 

Bio
Andrea Zavala studied Fine Arts at Complutense University of Madrid and has recently graduated at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam. Andrea has moved from painting and moving image to performance, and is interested in exposing the edges, voices and vacuums of these mediums. Her works have been presented at Tanzquartier, Wien, La Casa Encendida, Dansmakers, Amsterdam, Over Het IJ Festival, Frascati Theater, Veem House for Performance, Teatro Pradillo Madrid, Uferstudios Berlin, Juan Gallery Madrid, Reykjavík Art Museum, Xiamen Culture and Art Center China, amongst others.
