Lia Chaia

Lia Chaia brings regularly  issues related to the body in her drawings, video, photography and performance works.
One of the main themes that permeate her work concerns the perceptions and experiences of daily life, such as permanent tension of culture versus nature, as part of a process of reflection about the way nature are appropriated by the standards of urban culture.


Bio

Graduated in Fine Arts at the FAAP University in Sao Paulo, Lia Chaia began to exhibit in 1999. She joined the Rumos Program of Visual Arts, edition 2005/2006, Itaú Cultural Institute. She has been awarded Scholarships and residencies: In 2009 - Beijing, China, the Iberê Camargo Scholarship for the Public Art Room and the Gallery Garash in Mexico. In 2005 she was awarded the Artist in Residence Program Cité des Arts - Paris. Among her individual exhibitions, she has shown her work at Galeria Vermelho and Instituto Tomie Ohtake in São Paulo, ARCO Madrid 2012, Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea dell'Università di Roma and Centre de Creation Bazouges La Perouse (France).
